Whatever your weight loss goals, you always know that eating is a crucial part of your success. There’s another success factor that you may not think about too much: the way you eat your food. Yes we mean business Eating without thinking is “eating without attention”. It is this distracted, emotional eating that causes you to ignore your body’s signals when it is full. Chris Mohr, Ph.D., R.D. said this was the main cause of weight gain. Fortunately, Dr. Mohr shared the best strategies to help you become a conscientious eater. The following tips are easy to follow and will become part of your daily routine once you start.
Set A Timer
When you sit down to eat, make sure you have set a timer for 20 minutes. These 20 minutes should be used for the entire meal. This allows your body and mind to focus on every single bite you take instead of just crushing it in minutes.
Eat With Your Non-Dominant Hand
Change things! Try to eat with your non-dominant hand. While this may not seem natural to you, it will slow you down and pay more attention to your food.
Here’s a trick that most people will have trouble doing! Eat in complete silence for five minutes. As you do this, visualize and reflect on what it took to prepare the dish you are eating. From farmer to store including cooking the food.
Take Small Bites
Whenever he takes small bites of his food, he chews it thoroughly before reaching for another fork. And when it comes to losing weight, this is a big tip: small bites and small servings.
Before entering the kitchen, ask yourself this question
Okay, this may sound strange, but at least give it a try! Before opening the cupboard or refrigerator, take a breath and ask yourself, Am I very hungry? Try another activity, such as taking a short walk or reading. These activities will help you find the correct answer to this question.
